Stretch Knit Velvet in Black

Our stretch velvet is a mid-verging-on-heavy weight knit fabric with a soft pile and luxurious drape. It's ideal for tops and tunics designed for knit fabrics. It will also make lovely dresses, skirts, and pants, however the weight of the fabric will need to be considered when choosing a garment of these styles. For instance the bodice of a dress with a long, full skirt has the potential to be weighed down by the volume of fabric it's supporting. Similarly, a voluminous pair of pants may not easily stay up given the weight and stretch of the fabric.

A note on nap.. When ordering velvet for a project it is important to consider that you will be working with a fabric that has nap. Nap refers to the pile, or raised fibers, in a fabric. When you run your hand "with" the nap, the fibers lay down and feel extra soft; when you run your hand "against" the nap the fibers lift and offer slight resistance. Which direction the fabric has been "brushed" will even change the color ever so slightly but perceptibly. Because of this, all of your pattern pieces will need to be cut with the nap in the same direction. With certain patterns this may result in the need for additional yardage as your cutting layout may need to change.

Content: 90% Polyester 10% Spandex
Care Instructions: Wash cold with gentle detergent, air dry flat away from direct sunlight. Avoid wringing as this can distort the fabric's stretch. If ironing is needed, iron on the backside on low heat without steam.
