Slacks are defined as trousers for casual wear. While we don’t hear that term much these days, we think it is time to embrace it again. The Free Range Slacks pattern is as easy to wear as its name. You will feel free to roam in the comfort of a stylish, elastic high waist when you wear these pants. Although they were designed with linen in mind, these pants are so comfortable that we think you will want to make them in a multitude of fabrics and wear them all year long in any season.
There are two options - a tapered leg version and a straight, cropped version. Both have an elastic high waist, side panels, front pockets that are topstiched in place from behind, and an optional back patch pocket(s). The tapered legs look great rolled up so the finished garment measurements show rolled and unrolled measurements and the instructions include options for French and flat-fell leg seams.
Options & Features:
- high waist with wide elastic waistband
- front slash pockets
- side panels
- optional back pocket(s)
- tapered leg OR
- straight, cropped leg

The Mississippi Avenue Dress or Top has a very feminine, flattering and easy style. As a sleeveless style, it lends itself to spring and summer dressing however, it makes a great transition piece when paired with a cardigan, tights and boots. It can have a vintage look to it when sewn in a fabric such as rayon challis or something with some drape to it. It can have a more modern look to it when sewn in a crisp linen or cotton. Any way you fashion it, it's a great style. It features a V-neckline, spaghetti shoulder ties, an elastic almost empire waist (slightly higher than the natural waistline) and has a front panel that creates a slimming and interesting design feature. There are 3 options for length - Dress C falls a little below the knee, Dress B falls above the knee and Top A falls below the high hip. This is a beginner level pattern.
The Burnside Bibs are not your traditional work overalls. Yes they are comfortable and easy to wear, yet they are much more stylish and feminine than traditional versions. The straps that transition to narrower ties offer many options for how they can be tied. And...like so many sewing patterns, we as sewists are able to influence how casual or dressed up they become simply by fabric choice. Choose a fabric with some drape such as Tencel and pair them with a silk blouse and some heels for a dressed up look. Use a more traditional denim or linen and wear them with a tee shirt, sneakers or clogs and take a more casual approach.
Options & Features:
The Burnside Bibs have two front bib options - a scooped neck or the traditional straight front. Both bibs work with either version #1 or version #2.
Version #1 is a more fitted back pant with back waist darts and an invisible side zipper opening, however, the ties still form a small amount of gathers at the back waist.
Version #2 is a looser back pant that slips on over your hips and does not have a closure to sew. This version is fuller and more gathered in the back. Use your hip measurement to determine your size for version #2.
Both versions also feature a front waistband, curved front patch pockets, optional back pockets, and cross-back straps that transition to narrower ties that thread through back waist belt loops forming back waist gathers. They may be tied in many ways - at the back, front or sides. The legs are somewhat wide and can be made full length or cropped.
This is an intermediate level pattern. Sizes 00 - 20
The Toaster Sweaters consist of two different high neck top designs to keep you toasty warm and stylish in the cooler months. They are both very simple to sew and perfect for sewists of all levels who want to try their hand at sewing knits. These sweaters are designed to be constructed using knit fabric with at least 20% stretch around the width of the body.
Sweater #1: Is a closer fitting, semi-cropped sweatshirt/sweater. It works best when sewn in thick, stiff knits with some body to keep the neck standing upright. It features raglan sleeves, a wide waistband, a loose turtleneck, long cuffs and falls between the high and low hip. It’s great in a standard sweatshirt fleece (with stretch) however, it’s also extremely handsome in a sweater knit to dress it up a bit.
Sweater #2: Is an easy top/sweater that can be dressed up or down. It is somewhat fitted through the shoulders and sleeves and then swings out a bit at the underarms and hem. It features a semi-high-neck that takes its inspiration from funnel and boat necks. It also has mitered side vents with a hi-low hem that is 1” shorter in the front than the back. The front hem falls just below the high hip. Sew it in a boiled wool knit, a wool jersey or ponte for a more dressed up look. Sew it in a sweatshirt fleece (with stretch) or jersey knit for a more casual look.

The Nehalem is based on the traditional Thai fisherman’s pants worn by fishermen in Eastern Asia. The traditional pant is a one-size-fits-all, very baggy, loose-fitting pant that is wrapped and tied to fit. While still a loose-fitting wrap, the Nehalem has been slimmed down a bit and has been graded to better fit your size. The back rise of the pant is not as baggy as a traditional fisherman pant as it has a bit of a curve to its rise - for a more attractive and fitted back view.
The Nehalem skirt is a take on the fisherman pant as well. It also wraps and ties to make for an easy fitting, easy to wear piece. It features oversized side patch pockets, vertical front and back seaming and a wide waistband that can be folded down or worn upright and tied. The skirts feature an above the knee version and a tea length version. No closures to sew.
The Nehalem pants feature oversized side patch pockets, vertical back seaming and a wide waistband that can be worn upright or folded down and tied. The pants feature cropped and long versions. No closures to sew.
All versions have 2 options for the waistband construction. There is a double layered, more finished waistband construction (option #1) or a single layer, longer (option #2) that is less bulky.
Make any view up in a luxurious fabric and wear it with heels for a dressed up look, try lightweight denim for a new take on jeans or sew it in funky printed cotton and it just may become your favorite loungewear piece. The pants are less bulky and a bit more slimming if sewn in a fabric with some drape such as denim Tencel. The skirt, on the other hand, works great in a fabric with more body. However you make your Nehalem, the creative dressing options are endless with this pattern.
The Alberta Street Pencil Skirt is a great classic silhouette for any season. It is a slim fitting, unlined skirt with little to no ease in the hips with a tapered hem that lands just below the knees. It features a contoured waistband that sits just below the waist, angled and oversized front patch pockets, double back darts, a back vent and center back zipper. The instructions call for a set in back zipper however, an invisible zipper could easily be substituted for an intermediate or advanced sewist. This is an advanced beginner level pattern.
