Make a Men’s-Style, Short-Sleeve Shirt with Matt Stahl

Dates: July 12, 19, & 26 (all Saturdays)

Time: 10:15 AM - 2:00 PM

Skill level: Confident beginner and up

Instructor: Matt Stahl

Join returning instructor and extraordinary shirt maker Matt Stahl for a hands-on, three-part, skill building workshop where you will create a classic men’s-style, short-sleeve shirt from start to finish. With a provided pattern, Matt will walk you through cutting, interfacing, collar installation, hemming, and adding snaps instead of buttons. Along the way, you’ll pick up practical sewing techniques, fit tips, and the confidence to tackle more garment sewing at home.

Some homework between sessions is expected, see below.

Supplies to bring:

  • Fabric: 3 yards of light to woven fabric such as lawn, shirting, or other light cottons. Prints are more forgiving than solids.

  • Interfacing: 1 yard sew-in (fusible is ok if you are comfortable with it)

  • Thread: 1 spool should be sufficient, polyester recommended

  • Sewing machine: a walking foot is helpful but optional (if you don’t have a portable sewing machine, please let us know as we have a limited number available in the classroom)

  • Fabric scissors

  • Pins

  • Washable fabric marking pen or pencil

  • Snaps: This shirt uses snaps instead of buttons! We will be using size 14 and size 16 snaps. Matt can order snaps for participants who wish to order from options available at colorsnaps.com following the first class meeting.
