Nesting Fabric Baskets with Catie Clark - Saturday, November 30, 9:15 AM to 12:30

Pretty, practical, and versatile—fabric baskets are a great way to dress up any room and tuck away the clutter. In this class you will make 3 sizes of nesting baskets. Each basket is a cube shape with a boxed bottom that allows the basket to stand on its own so it can be placed on any flat surface. When not in use, the baskets fold flat for easy storage.

Supplies needed:

*Please note that you can use the same fabric for all 3 baskets if you like. You can also mix and match fabrics in any way you like to create the look you want for the interior and exterior sides of your nesting basket set. Both quilting cottons and linen-cotton blends are appropriate for this project.

**Prep work: please be aware that some cutting is required before class so you can finish all three baskets in class.

• Basket 1
  • 1/3 yard of fabric for exterior
  • 1/3 yard of fabric for interior
  • Prior to attending class, please cut: 2 rectangles of exterior fabric, and 2 of interior fabric (4 rectangles total) 12"tall x 15" wide 
• Basket 2
  • 1/4 yard of fabric (this quantity is enough for both exterior and interior fabrics), or, if you'd like to have different fabrics on the outside and inside of your basket, you need 1/4 yard of each fabric, or 1 fat quarter of each fabric.
  • Prior to attending class, please cut: 2 rectangles of exterior fabric, and 2 of interior fabric (4 rectangles total) 8.5"tall x 10.5" wide
• Basket 3
  • 1/4 yard of fabric (this quantity is enough for both exterior and interior fabrics), or, if you'd like to have different fabrics on the outside and inside of your basket, you need 1/4 yard of each fabric, or 1 fat quarter of each fabric.
    
  • Prior to attending class, please cut: 2 rectangles of exterior fabric, and 2 of interior fabric (4 rectangles total) 6.5"tall x 8" wide
• 1 yard of fusible fleece
  • Prior to attending class, please cut 4 rectangles 12"tall x 15" wide, 4 rectangles 8.5"tall x 10.5" wide, 4 rectangles 6.5" tall x 8" wide
• Coordinating thread for your fabrics
  
• Sewing machine (staff will be happy to help you carry your machine up to the classroom, also, we have a limited number of sewing machines available for use if you cannot bring one, just let us know when you sign up)
  
• 80/12 or 90/14 universal sewing machine needle
• Rotary cutter or scissors (you can use the ones in the classroom if you don't have one)
  
• Jean-a-Ma-Jig

Experience Level: Beginner with basic knowledge of how to operate your sewing machine

About the Instructor: Catie Clark is a valued staff member at Fiddlehead. She has a dog, a bunny, parakeets, and chickens, and they all live happily in Searsport. She's been sewing since she was a wee girl and her favorite thing to sew is nesting baskets.
